From Humble Beginnings

Proprietress, Homespun and Hands-On®
Hands-On Kits 'n' Kaboodles™ were developed over many years of looking for ways I could provide meaningful experiences for my children in our little homeschool — but don't let the homeschool part scare you! These products are 'simply perfect' for any busy parent (that's you!) because they make it 'perfectly simple' for you to spend quality time with your children that is meaningful too.
Homespun and Hands-On® has flourished since its humble beginnings as a 'Hands-On Learning' approach used with my children in our home. This once simple concept has since been completely researched, fully developed, and thoroughly vetted to become a viable and marketable product for any family. Over many years, I have discovered that dedicated parents, just like yourself, are always looking for ways to ensure that the quality time they spend with their children is also meaningful time. However, let's face it, life with children can be chaotic, and it's difficult enough to manage day-to-day, let alone plan and execute special activities that are meaningful. That's where Hands-On Kits 'n' Kaboodles™ can help!
My passion has always been to inspire children to love learning — my own as well as others! I have been a home education and parenting consultant for the past fifteen plus years, helping as many families as I possibly could in my rural Vermont community. In addition to consulting parents, I have spent years teaching classes and organizing programs for children ages five to thirteen using my Homespun and Hands-On® learning strategy. It had always been so well-received locally and inspired so many children to love learning that I knew I needed to find a way to reach more families. But how? I was only one person with 24 short hours in each day, restricted to the foothills of Vermont. With an extensive background in mass communication, marketing, graphic design, art, manufacturing, and education, I just knew there had to be some way around the pesky complications of hours per day and geographic location! Then, during a long, hot shower one morning (showers are where I do my best brainstorming!), I had an epiphany! Eureka — Hands-On Kits 'n' Kaboodles™! It was 'simply perfect!' I had come up with a way to make it 'perfectly simple' for any busy parent — anywhere — to use my tried-and-true strategy to not only create meaningful quality time with their children but to inspire them to love learning in the process!

It was a win-win! Great idea — right? That's what I thought too; however, little did I realize in that particular shower on that particular day how much time and money this particular idea of mine would actually take to launch! But here I am, several years later and I am pleased to say that the products are starting to take off. The word is getting out there (thanks to my many friends on social media) and Hands-On Kits 'n' Kaboodles™ are really beginning to sell. It's all so very exciting!

The products aren't the only things to have flourished since the old days either! My three children, who I did homeschool from the time they were babies through the 12th grade, have all gone on to become successful college students. Their Homespun and Hands-On® experiences have helped each of them to become young adults who not only, through a genuine love of learning, seek knowledge with passion and zeal — but also respect the value of education!
So, in 2017, I may not be homeschooling children anymore, my nest has emptied out, and I am definitely working harder than ever to become a force in the family marketplace; however, some things haven't changed. I still dearly love my family and owe all of my recent successes to everything that they have taught me. I am still extremely proud of my children, especially for the wonderful young adults they have grown to be. I still greatly appreciate my husband's patience and support while I attempt to conquer the world. And, I still live nestled in the foothills of Vermont with that wonderful husband, Charles; our little herd of goats — Callie, Sallie, Billy, and Nellie; and our two Cairn Terriers — Miss Lily Lu, and Miss Daisy Mae.
